Teleseen is the project of Gabriel Cyr a producer and DJ currently based out of Rio de Janeiro. Drawing from a wide range of influences that include Ethiopian Jazz, Afro House, samba and dub techno, Teleseen stitches a strikingly original blend of old and new sounds into a danceable mix. Anamorph is the first release of what promises to be a busy year for Teleseen. This EP is aimed squarely at the dance floor, and distills a wide variety of influences, from classic New York City House, Disco, and Brazilian Batucada, to more contemporary sounds from Southern Africa like Shangaan Electro or Angolan House.
From the opening track Anamorph, which comes in with an off kilter beat and morphs into a widescreen epic, you know you’re in for something different. The next track Decenter, a funky rewiring of a two step groove, is spliced with r’n’b vocals and deep house keys. Track three, Rainy Season, is an uptempo clash of thumb pianos, Brazilian Percussion, auto-tuned vocals and sub bass. Baalbek, the final tune was named for the Arabic for the ancient city of Heliopolis. It smashes Ethiopian horn lines against an uptempo, afro beat informed groove, sending the melody on a dynamic journey that resolves in an extended analog synth solo.
